Larry Mills, 70, of Bemidji, MN died Thursday, June 11, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Larry was born October 8, 1949 in Bemidji, MN the son of Archie and Opal (Flanders) Mills. Larry was baptized and confirmed Lutheran and attended various Lutheran churches over the years He was raised and educated in Northome, graduating in 1967. He graduated with a BS Degree in industrial arts from BSU. He married Patsy LaValley on October 18, 1969 at Hope Lutheran Church in Northome, MN. He worked as a teacher in Fosston, Cass Lake and Granton High School in Wisconsin.
Larry and Patsy started building Putt N’ Go in 1981 and ran the amusement park for 33 years. Putt N’ Go was one of his biggest accomplishments; he found joy in bringing entertainment to families in the community. In addition to running Putt N’ Go in the summers, he was also a logger, and sold Christmas trees for 10 years at the old A&W. Larry and Patsy sold Putt N’ Go, and retired in 2016. Racing was his main interest. He loved racing with his family and friends. He also enjoyed jeeping, target practice, hunting, fishing, four wheeling and family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Mills of Bemidji; son, Davey (Chris) Mills of Bemidji; daughter Stacey (Mike) Stang of Bemidji; foster daughter Merrilee (Seann) Hawkins; siblings, Davey S. (June) Mills of Crookston, Vicky Simmerman of Ft. Collins, CO, Terri (Doug) Simons of Pillager, MN, Michael (Jean) Simmerman of St. Charles, MO, and Holly Simmerman; step-siblings, Gary (Sandy) Winkle, Kathy (Richard) Lukenbill, Judy Madden, John (Margaret) Winkle, and Carol (Brian) Frame; and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Archie Mills, grandparents, Elsie (Mason) Mills, Richard Mills, Hazelton Flanders, and Richard Flanders.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, with a time of sharing at 6:30 pm, Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church.
