Son of Algie Barrett Hinton and Ruby Lee Wheeler Hinton. He graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia with a degree in accounting. Upon graduation, he joined the State of Georgia's Department of Audits and Accounts and retired after 38 years of service, 13 as the State Auditor of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Kim Barker Hinton. He is survived by his children, Wesley Barrett Hinton (Tiffany), and Courtney Hinton; and granddaughter, Hannah Grace.
