Chief Warrant Officer Paul J. Flynn of Whitsett, N.C. who went by Josh, had been in the Army ten years and was on his first tour in Iraq. He enlisted in the Army in June 1997. In 2003, he graduated from the Warrant Officer Orientation Course and the Rotary Wing Aviation Course. He completed the electronic warfare officer course, aviation warrant officer basic course and the UH-60 Blackhawk aviator qualification course in 2004, and the aviation tactical operation officer course in 2006. His awards include the National Defense Service medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service medal, the Army Service ribbon and the Air Assault and Army Aviator badges. Josh is survived by his 6-year-old son. He died while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom of injuries suffered when their helicopter crashed at age 28. Additional recovered remains were interred at Arlington National Cemetery in October 2008. A marker bears the names of 10 Schofield soldiers and four helicopter crew members were killed when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed on Aug. 22, 2007, during a nighttime mission in Multaka, Iraq.
