Obituary
William Hubbert
On Saturday morning, Nov. 24th, 1928, there passed away at Gore Bay one of Manitoulin's earliest pioneers, in the person of William Hubbert, sr., formerly of Britainville, ont., who had retired here from his farm about twelve years ago.
The deceased was suddenly stricken early in May 1928, with a complication of internal troubles and suffered acutely almost continuously until his demise. His aged widow and daughters nursed him with unflagging zeal and devotion, taking him to an hospital at Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., for a short time, but relief could not be obtained.
The late William Hubbert was born in Toronto in May 1851 and when quite young moved with his parents to Barrie, Ont., where in 1873 he married Elizabeth Stevenson and shortly afterwards came to Manitoulin and took up land in the Township of Campbell.
He leaves to mourn his loss a widowed mother and seven children, two sons, Frank and William of Britainvilee, John, a third son, dying 10 years ago. The five remaining daughters are Mrs. S. E. McCullough, of Tehkummah; Mrs. Jno. Hodgins of Mindemoya; Mrs. Wm. Russell, of Elizabeth Bay; Mrs. Chas. Bracken of Gordon and Miss Clara of Timmins, Ont. Two sisters, Mrs. Bishop of Hamilton and Mrs. Pearson of Allandale and four brothers, John, Jonathan, James and Wilt, all of Barrie, Ont., survive deceased.
The funeral was held at Gore bay on Tuesday, Nov. 28th, to Gordon Cemetery, the services being conducted by Mr. R. M. Hearst, International Bible student of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. the pall bearers were Sheriff J. H. Fell and Messrs. C. C. Platt, R. Lewis, R. Clarke, T. H. Pifer and Jas. Fisher.
