Inez Smithwick

Inez V. Abernathy Smithwick, 91, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 10, 1913, at Bastrop, La., a daughter of the late Luther Fisher Abernathy and Martha Jane Hutson Abernathy.
She attended school in England (Lonoke County), Galveston, Texas, and Little Rock, where she graduated from Little Rock Central High School.
She married Clyde H. Smithwick at San Benito, Texas, on March 6, 1935, and moved to Pine Bluff. He died in Sept. 21, 1974.
She was vice president of Smithwick Inc., where she was the company's interior decorator and landscape designer until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and a longtime member and a past president of the Pastor's Sunday School Class.
She was a member and past president of the Pine Bluff Homebuilders Ladies' Auxiliary and Arkansas State Homebuilders, and a member of the Audubon Society.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Smithwick Morrisey; one sister, Cauda Abernathy Shepard; and two brothers, Luther Fisher Abernathy Jr. and Joe Abernathy.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Smithwick of Pine Bluff and J. Richard Smithwick of Monticello; a daughter, Phyllis Smithwick Thomas of Pine Bluff; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 6501 S. Hazel St., Pine Bluff, AR 71603.
