Barr, Richard William Muskegon Richard William Barr, age 93, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in Florida. He was born February 25, 1926 in Muskegon to William and Jennie (Uitermark) Barr. Richard was a graduate of Muskegon High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On February 25, 1950 he married the former Barbara J. Zoeller in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2008. Richard worked for A & P Foods for 27 years before taking a job as a custodian for the Muskegon Public School system for 14 years. He discovered an interest in carpet cleaning and started his own business, cleaning carpets in the morning and going to work at Steele Junior High School in the afternoons. Dick and Barb owned and maintained multiple rental properties. He was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church and attended worship services at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sun City Center during his five-year residence in Florida. During his early retirement years, he enjoyed volunteering his time to witness and read the Bible to residents at Christian Care nursing home, and to help with BINGO activities there. He also volunteered at the former West Michigan SPCA program to help care for shelter cats, transport animals for spay/neuter medical care, and assist with fundraising events. When he was younger, he enjoyed skiing, especially in the mountains of Colorado. SURVIVORS include 2 daughters: Diane Lynn (Thomas) Brace and Jenise Marie German both of Florida; 2 grandchildren: Lisa Marie German and Matthew Thomas Brace. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Lila (Anthony) Barr; sisters: Margaret Barr and Phyllis (Barr) Coleman; and brothers: Clayton (ne Barr) Borgman, Donald Barr, and David Barr.
