Musician. He was a rock guitarist best known for his work in the bands UFO and Waysted. His first notable band was the Welsh band Universe. In December 1971, he joined Skid Row, replacing Gary Moore as guitarist, however his tenure only lasted until July of 1972. His next band was Kimla Taz, with whom he was guitarist from December 1972 to May 1974. Chapman first joined UFO in 1974 as a second guitarist to boost the band's live sound, having answered an ad in U.K.'s music paper Melody Maker. Although Chapman did not record an album during that period, he toured and promoted the 'Phenomenon' album, where he can be heard with the band on several tracks on the BBC live sessions album that was released retrospectively. In January 1975, he left UFO to form Lone Star, which lasted until June 1978. In 1977, he filled in for Michael Schenker in UFO when they were on tour with RUSH in the United States during one of the German guitarist's absences. Chapman recorded his first album with UFO on 1980's 'No Place To Run,' which was produced by George Martin. He remained in UFO until 1983, recording on another three albums, 'The Wild, The Willing And The Innocent,' 'Mechanix' and 'Making Contact.' Chapman later reunited with former UFO bandmate Pete Way in Waysted, and recorded the albums 'The Good The Bad The Waysted' and 'Save Your Prayers.' In 2003, he rejoined a reformed Waysted and completed a new album before departing from the band in November 2004 to form a new band, PCP (Paul Chapman Project). Chapman, who in recent years had been teaching music at his studio in Melbourne, Florida, died of natural causes on his 66th birthday.
