Marcia was born on Dec 9, 1859 in Des Moines, Iowa to Luman Sly and Adaline Elizabeth Beaumont. In her younger years the family moved around some from Port Byron, NY to Jackson, IA and Ohio. Approx 1863 her father died and the family was split up. Marcia stayed with her mother and they returned to Port Byron, NY.

About 1879, Marcia married Elbert Osborn Suydam in Brainard, Rensselaer, New York. They made their home in Troy, NY and had 2 children: Elbert Beaumont Suydam and Sarah Elizabeth Suydam. A permanent resident in their home was her husband's grandmother, Mary Wolcott Valentine. After the death of Mary in 1886, the elder Elbert decided to try and strike it rich in the gold fields of the Dakota Territory. Unfortunately he would die there and not return home. Marcia was mailed a copy of his death notice as it appeared in a Dakota newspaper but to this day the exact date and location of his death are unknown.

Marcia's second marriage was to a much younger man, Joseph Schultz born 1872. He and the young Elbert never got along. Young Elbert would play tricks on him and he in turn would abuse the boy. Marcia left the marriage and in 1912 settled in Los Angeles, CA where her son Elbert had moved to.

Marcia lived out the remainder of her life in Los Angeles, CA and died in 1938 at the 20th Century Sanitarium at the age of 78.
