William was the son of James Marvin Bridges Sr and Daisy Mae Grant Bridges. He was educated in the Crisp County School System and was a Class of 1965 graduate of A. S. Clark High School in Cordele, Georgia. In the late 1960's, he earned a certificate in Auto Body Collision and Repair in New York City. He moved to New York in the mid 60's and began building his career as a Auto Body Mechanic. He had a natural talent for repairing and painting cars. It was only a short time before he realized his vision of owning his own business, becoming the owner of a body shop in New York City.
