Jason Joe "Moose" Briggs, age 37, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 7th, 2020 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of Cindy Hensley Briggs of Spruce Pine and Howard Briggs of Bakersville. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jason Anderson and Aletha Laws Briggs. Moose was a member of Browns Creek Baptist Church and for over 10 years was a member of Newdale Fire Department until his declining health. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving in addition to his mother, Cindy Hensley Briggs, and father and step-mother, Howard and Jewell Briggs of Bakersville are his sisters: Ashley Stevens and husband, Jeremy, of Burnsville and April Coffey and husband, Scott, of Hickory; a very special nephew, Adam Elsaesser of Burnsville; nieces: Kimberlynn Stevens of Burnsville and Aleesha Coffee of Hickory and maternal grandparents, Joe Brooks and Barbara Ann Hensley of Burnsville. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services with Rev. Ronnie Whitson, Rev. Nicolas Briggs and Rev. Dennis Autrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Pete Young Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
