Paul H. Uselton, Jr., born Wednesday, December 18, 1928, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 6, 2020 in Nashville, at age 91.
He was preceded in death by beloved wife, Bernice Binkley Uselton; parents, Paul Herman Uselton, Sr. and Beadie Buttrey Uselton; son-in-law Kelly Mullins, and grandsons Kelly Lynn and Steve Mullins.
Paul is survived by children: Terry Uselton (Marsha), Judy Mullins, Kathy Mullins (Harold), Randy Uselton (Glenda), Richard Uselton (Deana); grandchildren: Nathan, Beth, Cindy, Sean, Jason, Rachel, Chris, Abby; great-grandchildren: Dagon, Kaden, Kelsey, Virginia, Cody, Madison, Devon, Bailey, Tanner, Kasey, Christina, and Bryson.
Paul retired in 1990 as Assistant Police Chief, Metro Nashville Police Department, after 35 years in law enforcement. "Chief" was past president of the Southern Police Institute Alumni Association, member of First Baptist Church, Joelton, and former member of both a country and western band and a dance band in his early days. As well as a talented musician, Paul loved golfing, fishing, boating, grilling steaks, and watching all manner of sports. "Pops" loved his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, taking the little ones for rides around the backyard on his golf cart, and rejoicing in their visits til the end.
Raised during the Depression, Pops traveled with parents around the country, graduated from Cohn High School in Nashville, studied music at Peabody College, served in the army (regimental band), worked at Lovelace Candy Company, then became a beat policeman, paddy wagon driver, motorcycle officer, captain, then head of the Uniform Services Division of MNPD.
