She was a musically gifted pianist who served as head organist of her church for forty-seven years. She taught piano lessons to countless students throughout her life, and upon request, she would even play the piano with her nose and feet for private audiences. In addition to her parents, Golden and Betty Raynes, she is predeceased by her brother, James Raynes; and husband, Paul Carter Sr. She is survived by her children, Paul Carter, Jr. and his wife ,Terri; daughter, Susie "Goose" Smith and her husband, Brent; four grandchildren, Jehramy Schlaegel (Shawnna), Matt Carter (Sarah), Caleb Schlaegel (Laura), Kelly Kueber (Gavin); nine great grandchildren; her brother's wife, Barbara; and her sister, Jane Owen (Ron).
