May 16, 1929 - May 30, 2020
Peacefully passed away in his sleep at home, during the early morning hours of Saturday, 5-30-20. Born in Brazil, Indiana, on May 16, 1929, to a large family of 13 children, George was the last surviving child of Ethel (Crabb) and Edward McKinney, a farmer and pastor of a small church who died while George was still a young boy. To help support the family, he held several part-time jobs including working as a cook at a truck stop before enlisting in the army and being shipped overseas to Germany. While serving in Nuremberg, Germany, at the close of World War II, he met his future bride, Katchen (Katie) Koget, marrying in Johannis Kirche, Nurenberg, on September 18, 1948. Upon their return to the United States, they settled in Brazil, Indiana and their sons, Ludwig and Danny, soon completed their new family. They later relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, and shared their home with Katie's parents, Dorothea and Ludwig Koget.
With a 35-year career as a mechanical troubleshooter at Allison Transmission in Speedway, Indiana, George also owned a tv repair service, worked as a prisoner transport guard, and worked at great heights assisting in the construction of multiple smokestacks. Upon his retirement from Allison's in the late 1980s, George devoted his time and efforts to his home and family. George excelled in many areas including home renovation, woodworking, cooking, and gardening.
At the time of Katie's passing in 2015, their 67- year marriage remained committed and strong. Deeply loved and respected by his family, George is survived by sons, Ludwig (Candace), and Danny (Teresa), grandchildren (Danny, Scott, Holley, Jason, and Sonja) and multiple great-grandchildren. Now reunited, George and Katie's love, devotion, and loyalty to family are the legacy they leave behind.
