Conscripted, he was mustered into "B" Co., 6th Battalion (Tredegar Battalion), Virginia Infantry, Local Defense on 10/16/1863 as a Private.
After the 6th was disbanded, he was transferred 8/12/64 into "B" Co., 1st Battalion, Virginia State Reserves (2nd Class Militia).
