Marion Virginia (Merritt) Wright, age 95, passed away from this life on the morning of Friday, June 5, 2020. Marion was born in Chapel Hill, NC, on Sunday, October 12, 1924, to the late parents, Henry Patrick Merritt, Jr. and Martha Jane Lindsay Merritt. She was one of 7 children and her siblings include, Edwin Charles Merritt, Marvin Merritt, Dewey Ellington Merritt, John Arnold Merritt, Vivian Lindsay Merritt Church Giles, and Patty Jean Merritt Wiillis.

Marion married William Lee Wright on Friday, May 31, 1946, and from this union 10 children were born. They include, Donald Jerome Wright, Arnold Lee Wright (the late Joanne Monroe), Conway Marcellus Wright (Karen Redman), Teresa Nadine Wright, Oliver Clark Wright, Shirl Darlene Wright, Patricia Eileen Wright Moats (Samuel Leon Moats), Earl Wesley Wright, Dianne Kay Wright Nibblins (Harold Curtis Nibblins, Jr.), and Charles Ellington Wright. Marion also raised a special grandson, Shawn Lamar Wright. Marion has 30 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Mom, Grandma Marion, Aunt Minnie or Sis, as she was affectionately called by her family members, was a woman that never shied away from hard work. She expected strong work ethic from her family members as well and would reward them with the best iced tea, remarkable food and a sincere “thank you, until better paid”, she'd always say. Marion showed her family love in many ways and dinners were had, gathered around her kitchen table and often followed with her homemade desserts. No one made better pies!

Marion loved music. Her favorite genre was Gospel and her favorite singer was Mahalia Jackson. Her love of music started in childhood when she played the violin and later in life she picked up the piano. She was often found at her piano playing, “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus”.

Marion was a strong, virtuous woman and her devotions sure. She demonstrated a strong dedication to God's word and her life served as a testimony. A private person by nature, Marion did not, however, refrain from speaking her truth when and where necessary, and that included sharing God's Word through her authentic testimony of just how much God had done for her. She attended faithfully at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Petersburg, WV, under pastor-ship of Pastor Calvin Redman, Sr.

Left to mourn Marion's passing and celebrate her life she lived are: 2 sisters, her 8 children; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband (William Lee Wright), infant son (Charles Ellington Wright), son (Oliver Clark Wright), and 5 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wright's family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, 12-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Calvin Redman officiating. Interment will be in Entry Mountain Cemetery on Entry Mountain, Franklin, WV. Memorials may be made to Franklin Rescue Squad.
