Ray Brown was born on September 21, 1941 in Adamsville, TN to Haze Brown and Mary Gray Brown. He passed away on June 4 in Cape Girardeau, MO at the age of 78.
He had been employed with the Cottonwood Point Ferry, Borg Warner in Blytheville, AR, and had been a custodian at South Pemiscot School. He sold fireworks, vegetables, and fruit, and had been a volunteer with the Steele Fire Department. He was also a wrestler and had wrestled with Bill Underwood and Cecil Hedge, among others.
He was united in marriage on June 1, 1976 in Caruthersville to Betty Marie Howell Brown. Betty preceded him in death on August 3, 2018. They had been married 51 years.
He was also preceded in death by, his parents, Haze and Mary Brown, two sisters, Virginia Mooney and Louise Weaver, two brothers, Thornton Brown and Richard Brown, one nephew, James Shelton.
He is survived by, three daughters, Cindy DeRoy of Steele, MO, Betty Brown of Steele, Alisha Ayers of Fort Walton Beach, FL, four grandchildren, Ethan EdRoy, Rachel Brown, Ashley Rondon, and Chance Brown, one great granddaughter, Lilith Daniels, two brothers, A.J. Brown of Cottonwood Point, Jackie Brown of Paris, TX, one sister, Addie Lou Henderson of Portageville, MO, and many friends.
Visitation was held at Powell Funeral Home in Steele June 8 at 10 a.m. until services. Graveside services were held at Mt. Zion Cemetery at 12 p.m. with Reverend Shawn Hardking officiating.
Pallbearers were, Scott DeRoy, Jonathan Richardson, Guy Trimble, Steve Ayers, Randy Trimm, William Durbin.
