Rita Marie Harris
December 14, 1932 ~ June 2, 2020 (age 87)
Rita M. Harris, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 2, 2020 in Fort Walton Beach. Born in Fitchburg Massachusetts, she had a short career in the nursing field and as a clerk. She married Thomas A. Pascoe, Jr. who was an active duty Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer. They had 3 children; Russell, Garry and Lori. Rita lost Tom, who suffered an untimely death, and married Joe D. Harris who was also an Air Force NCO. Together they had one child; Lisa. The family of 6 would travel from Florida to Louisiana, Philippines, and Massachusetts before retiring in the FWB area.
In her travels, Rita made every house a home and cared for her children during her time as a military spouse. Rita was a blessing to those in need but also a force to be reckoned with. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, swimmer, and very accomplished as a cook and baker. When Joe retired from the Air Force and started his own air conditioning repair business, Rita would sit home and answer service calls and then page Joe to call home and relay the information. She enjoyed shopping for vintage movies or recording them from the TV. Rita was fluent in French and English and a peek inside her closet revealed she loved wearing bright bold colors. She enjoyed a liberal splash of perfume and was often teased by her children that they could smell her coming from a mile away! She was a woman of simple needs and fewer wants. She was frugal to a fault and was content in her later years.
She is proceeded in death by first husband Thomas, daughter Lori and second husband Joe. She is survived by 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 110 St. Mary Ave. SW Fort Walton Beach Florida 32548, Tuesday June 9th from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. A funeral mass will follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery.
