WALNUT COVE, NC ~ Mary Margaret “Nanny” Ashby Nelson, of Walnut Cove, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, June 6, 2020, after a long battle with an illness at her home.
Margaret was born on February 1, 1947, in Stokes County, NC, to the late George W. and Katherine Bullins Ashby.
She retired from Walnut Cove Healthcare after 30 years of service.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George W. Ashby and Katherine Bullins Branch; husband, Preston William Nelson; daughter, Melissa Lynn Nelson Hall; great-granddaughter, Kiara Shian Nelson; sister, Georgia Sue Hill.
Margaret is survived by her loving son, Michael William Nelson; grandson, James Preston (Ashley); three granddaughters: Sasha Renee Nelson, April Lynn Hall, and Christina Ann Hall; sister, Freda Best (Sam); brothers: Tommy Lee Ashby (Lynn) and Jerry Pete Ashby; 9 great-grandchildren; boyfriend, Larry Sapp; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be an 11:00 AM graveside service on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Friends Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Nelson officiating.
There will be no formal visitation, however, the family will receive friends following the graveside service.
