Comte de Vertus. Born the second son of Louis de Valois, Duc d'Orleans and Valentine Visconti and grandson of Charles V of France. He was betrothed to Catherine, daughter of the duc de Bourgogne but the marriage was never celebrated as he died about age 24, prior to the wedding. He has been tradionally named the out of wedlock ancestor of Camille Claudel, the sculptor and her brother, poet Paul Claudel.
