James H. Swarts, 86, of Allegheny Township, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born April 17, 1926, in New Kensington, a son of the late Stanley L. and Mary F. (Eure) Swarts. During World War II, James served in the Army as a staff sergeant and as a medic in the Korean War. He retired from Allegheny Ludlum Steel. The longest living member of Allegheny Presbyterian Church in Leechburg, James served there as an elder and treasurer. He also was the oldest charter member of the Allegheny Township Lions Club. His interests included fishing, gardening, mowing, computer games, casino trips and spending time with his family. Jim is survived by his loving family: wife, Ethel (Mauthe) Swarts; four children, Mindy (Skip) Bennett, Margie McMahon, Jim (Suzanne) Swarts, and Tim (Benise) Swarts; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stanley and Bob Swarts; and a sister, Alberta Swingle Crowe. Respecting his wishes, a private funeral service will be held. Arrangements are by FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068. Memorial donations may be made to Allegheny Presbyterian Church, 1900 State Route 356, Leechburg, PA 15656.
