Charles W. Oakley entered into the presence of his Lord on June 5, 2020. Mr. Oakley was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean War. He was known for gardening and his love of people. He frequently was a present support with those whose family members were undergoing surgical procedures and difficult times. Being a “people person”, he seemed to make new friends wherever he went.
Mr. Oakley was born in Coffee County, Tennessee, on October 23, 1931.
He is survived by Elsie Criswell Oakley, his wife for 66 years. Together, they have three children: Jeff (Vicky) Oakley, Marty (Tammy) Oakley, and Monica (Don) Fox. They have six grandchildren: Erin Elise (Matt) Finney, Emily Jean (Micah) Whitaker, Blake Owen (Andrea) Oakley, Derek Scott (Ashley) Oakley, Mary Emily Fox (Steven) Beard, and Kirsten Nicole Fox. Nine great-grandchildren include: Grey Owen Oakley, Annie Beth Whitaker, Claire Elise Finney, Beckham Oakley Beard, Porter Scott Oakley, Everly Jean Finney, Jack Charles Whitaker, Ava June Beard, and Palmer Marie Oakley.
He was preceded in death by parents, Mary Crawford and Weldon Miller Oakley, brothers: Billy N. Oakley, Ed K. Oakley, Rondol E. Oakley, James W. Oakley, and in-laws, Sonny Gossett and Jane Oakley.
Mr. Oakley is survived by three siblings: Ramona Gossett, Linda Sue (Bill) Arnold, Helen (Jerry) Hager, and sisters-in-law: Anne Oakley, Mary Oakley, and Beverly Oakley. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family from Tennessee to Texas.
Visitation will be Monday, June 8, 2020 at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN, between the hours of 3pm and 8pm. Funeral service and interment will be private.
