Following a long illness, Mrs. Sarah Frances Austin Underwood, widow of the late Charles Underwood, died about 6 o'clock this morning [19 Jun 1918] at the home of her son, John C. Underwood, 27 Lewis Street. She was the eldest daughter of the late Rev. J. [John] M. Austin, for many years pastor of the First Universalist Church of this city. Mrs. Underwood was born in South Danvers, now known as Peabody, Mass., April 14, 1837. She lived there until she moved to Auburn with her father in 1844.
On April 28, 1857 she was married to Charles Underwood, after which she moved to Aurelius where she lived for 30 years until the death of her husband. The last 26 years of her life had been spent in Auburn where she gained many friends. During her residence in this city she had been a devoted member of the First Universalist Church.
She is survived by four children: Mrs. Frank E. [Sarah Adele] Storrs of Canton, N.Y., Mrs. Elmer S. [Grace Lydia] Webster of Aurelius, Mrs. Romaine [Mehetable R.] Fisher and John C. Underwood, both of Auburn; two sisters, Mrs. George E. [Clarabel] Ashby of Homer and Mrs. Ella M. Reigle of this city six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at the family home, 27 Lewis Street, at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon. The services will be conducted by Rev. John Edward Price, pastor of the First Universalist Church. Burial will be in Fort Hill Cemetery.
