Huey P. Mott, 82, of Middleton, departed this life Friday evening, June 5 at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, MS.

A native of Middleton, he was born Tuesday, May 24, 1938, son of the late Leroy Patterson Mott and Hazel Harris Mott and lived all of his life here. He was a 1956 graduate of Middleton High School and 1960 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he played basketball. He had worked on his master's degree in Administration through the University of Memphis. He began a teaching career in agriculture at Middleton High School, retiring in 1993 after 31 years. During his career as an avid sports fan, he ran the scoreboard for football and basketball games. Throughout his life he farmed and raised cattle with his father, brother, son and grandchildren. He met his wife, Doris Hammons, when she worked for the ASCS office during his farming years, and he married her on March 23, 1962, enjoying 58 years of marriage. He served in the Army National Guard as company commander for over 10 years. He was dearly loved by and deeply loved his family. Active in the community, he was a member of Middleton Church of Christ, served on the Farm Bureau Board as community chairman, and was a long standing member of the Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Hammons Mott of Middleton; three children, Robbie Mott (Sheree') of Lakeland, Melissa Denton (Boyette) of Toone and Timothy Mott of Memphis; 7 grandchildren, Evan Mott (Danielle) of Middleton; Lindsey Denton of Memphis, Drew Denton (Savana) of Toone, Emily Wilkey (Clay) of Morristown, TN, Natalie Daniel (Ryan) of Huntington, Blake Denton (Autum) of Bolivar and Sarah Alysse Mott of Lakeland; 2 great grandchildren, Caitley and Dallas Mott and two "on the way" this year. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Lee Mott in November of 2002.
