Mike "Russ" Russell, 43, of Sioux Falls, South, Dakota died Thursday, May 21, 2020 of an apparent heart attack. Public funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2020, at The Ransom Church Downtown Campus (700 N. Main Street, Sioux Falls). Private visitation with limited attendance will be held the night prior. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to be used for Mike’s kids.
Mike was born June 25, 1976, in the Chicago area of Illinois. The family moved to Sioux Falls and he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1994. He was blessed with two boys, Zachary and Cadyn and they became the center of his world. He was the cool dad who enjoyed coaching various sports teams and making sure the boys had everything they needed to succeed. Countless kids were positively impacted by him and he loved being able to touch so many lives. That loving heart was evident in all aspects of his life. He never met a stranger and was the first to drop what he was doing to help friend and stranger alike. He was all about meeting you where you were and helping you build yourself up. Nothing from your past was going to stop him from being your friend. He worked for Beal Distributing, was half of the M&M super team at Chesterman’s, and is currently employed at Dakota Fluid Power.
Left to cherish his memory are his two boys, Zachary and Cadyn of Sioux Falls; mother, Pat (Tom) Welbig of Harrisburg; and sister, Misty (Patrick) Flanagan of Evergreen, CO. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Russell.
