Cpl. Josh Harmon of Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio graduated from Mentor High School in 2005 and got married on May 10, 2007 to a girl he had met while training in Hawaii. He was an accomplished musician on the guitar and drums and enjoyed many sports, including bowling, soccer, Kenpo karate, and working on cars. Joshua loved animals, especially the family dogs, Mercedes and Ginger. He adored his little black cat, Sheila. His face lit up every time he saw Sheila. Joshua always had a smile and was a very giving and caring person. He was a good friend, wonderful son, devoted husband, and good citizen. He had previously worked as a master mechanic at Classic Ford in Mentor before joining the U.S. Army. The family has a tradition of public service. He was a combat medic in the Army, and his father served as chief at the nearby Willoughby Hills Fire Department. Josh wanted to go to medical school after leaving the military. He recently won the Medal of Valor for saving a wounded soldier's life. He was scheduled to return home in about three weeks after two tours in Iraq. He was among 14 soldiers killed in a Black Hawk helicopter crash in Iraq. Additional recovered remains were interred at Arlington National Cemetery in October 2008. A marker bears the names of 10 Schofield soldiers and four helicopter crew members were killed when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed on Aug. 22, 2007, during a nighttime mission in Multaka, Iraq.
