Sandwiched between two sisters, Phillip learned how to treat a lady. A devoted son and brother, he was a charming, loyal friend to all who knew him. He lived in Burbank, Illinois, and moved at the age of 8 to Frankfort, Illinois, where he was a 2000 graduate of Lincoln-Way Central High School. In school he was active in wrestling, soccer, baseball and played the drums. He joined the Army afterwards, serving for two years in Kosovo. He was discharged in 2002 and moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked until 2005 when he re-enlisted in the Army. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He was deployed to Iraq in August 2006 where he helped train Iraqi soldiers. Phillip kept in constant contact with his mother, sending her instant messages frequently. On the day his mother learned of his death, she had received a birthday present from Phillip. It was a chess set he and his buddies had been playing with. Phillip was one of fourteen Task Force Lightning Soldiers who died when the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter they were riding went down in northern Iraq. He was promoted posthumously from Army specialist to corporal. Phillip had plans to become a police officer, a job his father holds for the city of Burbank. He is survived by his parents, James (Mary) Brodnick and Marian (William) Stockhausen; siblings Kimber (Scott) Larson, Lisa Brodnick, Isabella Brodnick, Dan (Beth) Stockhausen, Jeff (Cheryl) Stockhausen, Craig (Christine) Stockhausen and James Stockhausen; grandmother Helene Brodnick and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandfather John Brodnick. Bio by: Sue
