Piper Grave. Andrew W. Piper (1828-1904), who was famous locally for "Piper's Dream Cakes," took his recipe to the grave. The U.S. government took Piper's property on Lake Washington for the Sand Point Naval Station. In return, they gave him land north of Shilsole, which is now Carkeek Park. (Lot 184.) Andrew Piper was the owner of the region's first candy shop. He brought ice cream to Seattle when he hacked great blocks of ice from frozen Lake Union and built the city's first commercial icehouse. (from The Seattle Times)
