The son of George W. and Martha Gassaway Harper.

Married Mary E. Rardon and to this union one daughter, Mrs. Lizzie McElwee, was born.

Married Arminda Blair in 1869. To this union the following children were born George M., Martha A., Carl, and Mrs Wade Best.

Survivors includes daughters, Mrs. J. E. Best and Moss Harper, son George.
