Carl Carter Allen, 77, Thorntown, died at 2 a.m. Aug. 13, 2007, in his home.

Mr. Allen served in the U.S. Army in Korea, 1955-57. He had worked for New York Central Railroad and Penn Central Railroad. He worked for Conrail, out of Avon, and retired in 1993 after 45 years of service.

He was a member of Thorntown Baptist Church, Colfax American Legion and County Line Fishing Club. His hobbies were fishing, mushroom hunting and hunting. He loved the outdoors.

He was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Boone County to Claud E. and Eva Fisher Allen. He married Mildred J. Stewart on June 29, 1955, in Lebanon, and she died Aug. 23, 1998.

Surviving are three sons, Gary (Jennie) of Kirklin, Kenny (Mary Lou) and Mick, both of Thorntown; four brothers, Doyle of Thorntown, Donnie of Whitestown, John of Bunker Hill and Ronnie of Kokomo; five sisters, Anna Bates, Janet Gregg and Judy Skow, all of Thorntown, and Frances Dumbar of Colfax and Maxine Waltenburg of Denver, Colo.; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Bob; one sister, Mary Higer; and one granddaughter, Sarah.
