Henry Alvis Jordan of Mt. Sterling died Monday, June 1, 2020, at the age of 83.

He was born to Wilfred David and Gladys Thrash Jordan of Lisman on September 19, 1936.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Powell Jordan; one son, Dave Jordan (Becky) of Brewton; three grandchildren, Matthew Jordan (Melanie) of Brewton; Jilian Jordan Evans (Paul) of Montgomery; and Coale Jordan (Alecia) of New Orleans, LA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Alvis graduated from Choctaw County High School in 1954 and from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1958 with his Bachelor of Science Degree. He built several businesses in his career and worked as a commercial truck driver.

Faith, family, and worship were the basis of who he was and how he lived. His love has left an imprint on the hearts of many who loved him, including his many treasured Mt. Sterling friends. He was a loyal member, Deacon and song leader at Mt. Sterling Baptist Church for many years. He loved God, his family and his church. God blessed him with a beautiful tenor voice which he faithfully used to glorify God.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 5, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Ben James and Pastor Coale Jordan (grandson) officiating.

Pallbearers are Matt Jordan, Coale Jordan, Paul Evans, James Powell, Howard Powell, Dell Powell, and Mitchell Powell.
