Clarence Weldon Hunter, 75, of Iowa Park went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday morning, June 2, 2020 at his home with his wife by his side.
The family will receive friends between 5 and 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Richard Hartwell, officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park, Texas under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
Weldon the youngest of six children, one brother and four sisters was born on May 1, 1945 to Vernon Terrell and Mary Jewel (Barfield) Hunter of Thornberry, Texas. He attended several schools in Wichita County, including Regan Jr High, Wichita Falls High School and graduated from Hirschi High School with the first senior class in 1963. In 1984, Weldon furthered his education at Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas. At the age 12, he was baptized in Church of Christ in Wichita Falls and remained a member there before moving to Dallas, Texas. Weldon was a hard-working boy, he threw the Wichita Falls Times newspaper, mowed lawns, and worked as a busboy for Lester’s Steak House, Wichita General Hospital and Sheppard Air Force Base Officers Club. He was a member of the Central Boys Club, where he went swimming and created things in the woodshop for his mother. Weldon enjoyed taking his boat to the lake going swimming, water skiing and fishing, and enjoyed working on his vehicles and restoring his 1950 Chevrolet. Weldon was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was loved dearly and will be missed by all.
Weldon was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Terrell (1987); mother, Mary Jewel (2006); oldest sister, Virginia Ann Hunter (1935); mother-in-law, Lorene Mills (2011); and his brother-in-law, Charles Mills (2013).
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Mills Hunter of Iowa Park; two children, Sharon Kay Hunter and husband, Paul Oiler of Lone Oak, Texas and Weldon Scott Hunter and wife, Cheryl of Kaufman, Texas; two grandsons, Colton Scott Hunter and girlfriend, Miranda of Balch Springs, Texas and Stevie Ray Flores and wife, Kasey of Longview, Texas; granddaughter, Daniele Flores Crow and husband, Corey of Van, Texas; great-grandchildren, Laydan and Brynlee Flores of Longview, Texas and Ross and Danny Crow of Van, Texas; brother, Donald Wayne Hunter and wife, Kim; sisters, Maudine Hunter Stermer and Jewel Dean Hunter Tanner and friend, John all from Wichita Falls and Verna Hunter Gee and husband, Donald of Temple, Texas; step-son, Brandon Mills and girlfriend, Vonda, step-grandchildren, Kenzy Mills of Iowa Park, Bryce Mills and fiancé, Maliha of Wichita Falls, and KaBryn Mills Bray and husband, Ryan and their children, Kadeyn and Lexa Bray of Lubbock; brother-in-law, Bob Mills and wife, Clara and family; and sister-in-law, Jo Ann Mills Taylor and husband, Don and family both from Iowa Park; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Weldon would like everyone to know he had a full and enjoyable life and would like his family and friends to “Celebrate” his life and not mourn his passing.
Brenda would like to give a special thanks to Brandon, Jo Ann, neighbors: Alyssa and Nick, Danny Charlie and Johnny for all their help during my husband’s illness.
