MRS. DAVIDSON
WEST POINT - Mrs. Lillie Pearl Davidson of the New Harmony community died Friday, May 18, 2007 at Hospice LaGrange.
Funeral services are planned for Saturday, May 26 at 2 p.m. at New Harmony C.M.E. Church on Adams Road with the Rev. John Pollard officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Mrs. Davidson leaves to cherish her memories a big sister, Lizzie Mae (Dee) Billingslea; a daughter and her husband, Col. and Dr. Veronical McClurkin of Corona, Calif.; a son, Dan Derrick McClurkin; granddaughters, Erika A. (Precious) McCarden of Altadena, Calif., Danielle McClurkin of North Carolina and Robyn and Kiana McClurkin of Atlanta; an adopted grandson, Roshawn McClurkin of New York; nieces, Ernestine Barton-Foster of Las Vegas, Nev., and Nadine Winston-Brooks; and nephews, Walter Barton Jr. of Virginia, Harrington Barton, Kenneth Drew Barton, Jarrell Winston III, Mathis Winston and Ezekiel Winston. She also leaves loving memories to a host of extended family members, cousins, infinite friends and loved ones.
Affectionately known by all as "Ms. Doll," Mrs. Davidson was born March 23, 1927 to the late Jarrell Winston and Lizzie Lou Jones-Winston of Troup County. She attended school in the New Harmony Church's UB and A and 10th Street schools. Mrs. Davidson lived for a number of years in New York and befriended the likes of many celebrities, including famed singer Billie Holliday. She returned to West Point in 1957 and worked as a sales agent for Atlanta Life Insurance Company.
Mrs. Davidson later attended West Georgia College and used her education and skills to found West Point's first Head Start program. In addition, she was the assistant director and educator at the Troup County Training Center and also served as state education representative for Community Action for Improvement (CAFI). Mrs. Davidson was later instrumental in providing aid for needy families and improving housing development through the Urban Renewal Program.
In the last stages of her career, she worked at the Senior Citizens Club, where she helped establish programs and coordinate activities and annual trips for local senior residents. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her siblings, Hosley Winston, Jarrell Winston, John L. Winston, Robert "Bob" Winston and Carrie T. Winston- Barton.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lakes-Dunson- Robertson Funeral Home in LaGrange.
