Obituary Published by Solimine Funeral Home June 3, 2020
Dorothy Claire (Weitzel) Jordan, age 71 of Lynn, died on Monday June 1, 2020 at Salem Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Thomas Jordan, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Kathleen (Soucy) Weitzel. She was raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Swampscott and was a graduate of Swampscott High School, class of 1967. She would later earn an Associate’s Degree from North Shore Community College. Dorothy had lived in Swampscott for the greater part of her life before moving to Lynn in 2000. For many years “Dot” worked for Advanced Automation, and then for the Lynn Economic Opportunity (LEO) Head Start Program. She always had a passion for helping people (especially children) and her years working at Head Start allowed her to help low-income families improve their child’s health, nutrition, and early childhood education. She found this work to be the most challenging, yet most rewarding of her life. A former member of the Boston Church of Christ, Dot was an active member of the Rebekah’s and she and her husband for many years helped organize the Odd Fellows Pilgrimage for Youth trip to New York City. They also took great pride in coordinating quarterly lodge newsletters for the IOOF Kearsarge Lodge #217 of Swampscott for more than 20 years. She had a passion for flowers and food, especially sweets and she loved to make people laugh. Her greatest joy came through spending time with her family and her beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to her. As the family matriarch, she would make sure that her children kept connected to the entire extended family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sons; Torry Jordan Morris and his wife Melanie of Clinton and Michael P. Jordan and his wife Amy of Peabody, 6 grandchildren; Damian, Laine, Miana, Jag, Meadow, and Owen, a sister Diane Philbrook of Florida, 2 sisters-in-law Patricia McBain and Colleen Jordan, both of Swampscott, and many nieces and nephews, including her two god daughters Christina Jordan of Swampscott and Melissa Re of Peabody. She was also the sister of the late Paul Weitzel. Adhering to the guidelines of the CDC and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Solimine Funeral Homes, friends are encouraged to leave condolences at www.solimine.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the NSMC Cancer Walk at https://nsmc.rallybound.org/MichaelDorothyJordan
