Kathleen “Susan” Stevens (Berg) went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ at 4:49 am on May 13th, 2020 at 69 years of age. The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism.

Susan was born on Dec 28th, 1950 in Herkimer, NY and grew up In Newport, NY. She attended West Canada Valley Central School, graduating with the class of 1968. She moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1977. Susan was married to Edward Ira Stevens on May 30th, 1983, inheriting in the process three children: Mark, Whitney and Kimberly. Susan earned a B.A. in Business Administration and Computing at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL in 1984 and an M.S. in Information Systems from Florida Institute of Technology in 1997.

In an era when not many women worked in the computer field, Susan was a pioneer. From 1980 -1985, she served as the Assistant to the Director of Planning & Analytical Studies at Eckerd College. From 1985–1987 and 1990–1991, she was the Director of Computer User Support Services at Signaware Corporation in Clearwater, FL. From 1993 through 2000, she was Director of Development Records & Computer Support Services and an Adjunct Faculty Member at Eckerd College. From 2000-2003, she was Director of Development Records & Computer Support Services at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. She took early retirement in 2004. From 2004-2012 she and her husband resided in Conway, NH. In 2012 they moved from New Hampshire to Meridian, ID to be with her extended family.

Susan was incredibly kind and compassionate, and she dedicated much of her life to serving others. After moving to Meridian, Susan began working as a companion, bringing comfort and encouragement to those who suffered from forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s. She was a very active member of Eagle Christian Church in Eagle, ID. She also trained and served as a Stephen Minister, coming alongside members of her congregation during seasons of trial and hardship.

Susan and Edward loved to travel abroad and enjoyed trips to Great Britain and Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Canada, St. Martin, and New Zealand. She was an avid reader, accomplished in knitting and crocheting, a warm hostess and a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and friend. She was adored by all who knew her, including her kitties and “grandkitties”.

While these bits of information communicate where and when Susan lived and what she did, they fall woefully short in communicating who she was and how profoundly she impacted those who knew her and were the grateful recipients of her compassionate love. Susan was a truly great human being, not only as man reckons greatness, but as God Himself reckons greatness (Matthew 20:25-28). She will hold a place of honor in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

Susan is predeceased by her father, Nicholas Berg, and her mother Katherine Butler. She is survived by her husband Edward, his son Mark Stevens, Mark’s wife Lisa and their children Christiana, Carina, Andrew and William; daughter Whitney Miller, her husband Victor and their children Victor and Margaux; and daughter Kimberly Pannone and her children Madison and Nathaniel. In addition, Susan is survived by her stepmother Betty Berg of Utica, NY, her aunt Marguerite Herring of Poland, NY, her cousins Ed Butler of Hart’s Location, NH, Michael Carney of Rochester Hills, MI and John Carney of Queensbury, NY.

Memorial services will be held for family and friends on Monday, June 29th at 4:00 pm at Eagle Christian Church, 100 S. Short Road in Eagle, ID (https://www.eaglechristianchurch.com , 208-286-0879).
