John Edward Hull, age 67, of Leola, PA, passed in peace in the arms of his loving wife on Monday, May 25, 2020 at his second home in Forks Township, Sullivan County.
John was born in Providence, RI, on April 4, 1953, a son of the late Lloyd Allen & Mary Jean Chymczuk Hull. John was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Lewis Hull, in 1987.
He grew up in Ephrata, PA, attending OMPH, and graduated in 1971 from Lancaster Catholic High School. He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Louise Smith Hull in 1982, with whom he shared 52 years of love, 38 years of marriage. They continued their life together in their “starter home” in Leola, raising 3 wonderful kids John, Nick, and Jess. His usual greeting when family dropped by to visit was, “Come on in!” In the end, Louise and John fulfilled all of their hopes and dreams together. Many will remember John and Louise as having a love story that people aspire to have.
John left a legacy to all his children - not of wealth, but of example. John had a love of music. He always cranked up the car radio when some good old rock and roll came on. Many visits with his son John Lloyd included conversations about different artists in the genre of music, which filled John with much joy. Not only did John work on cars most of his life, but he was an inspiration to his son Nick, teaching him numerous automotive lessons in the backyard garage to show him the tricks of the trade. To his little girl, Jessica, the apple of his eye, he modeled what family life was all about - devotion, patience, care, concern and contentment. He left her and Cory with a love of what a ‘real family’ exemplifies as they built their young family. Above all else, John believed that loyalty and kindness were the most important traits to having a good life with friends and family. John loved his four granddaughters. Bella will remember him as being "warm as toast," Nina by him always tickling her, and Leni always sharing a loving smile and the TV remote. He had only just met Lucy, but thankfully was able to hold her in his arms.
He was employed in the auto body business, and was known for his expertise in body work and painting. John remained self-employed for many years while contributing to his family “holding down the fort” as a devoted stay at home dad.
In his days, John collected and restored many awesome antique cars. He courted his high school sweetheart, Louise, in his ‘56 Chevy, a few ‘70 Corvettes, ‘68 Lincoln Continental, ‘54 Ford, and a ‘64 Thunderbird. Hippy vans, station wagons, and a die-hard VW took John and Louise across the state and country. These were great times together. John enjoyed weight lifting, walking hundreds of miles on their local country roads and hiking the mountain trails in Penn’s woods. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies win and lose throughout his life with his uncles, pop, and family. On hot days and starry nights you could find John outside on the deck of the backyard pool he maintained for 35 years. From his own children to his grandchildren many backyard memories were shared and will always be remembered.
John was a cat lover. He was lovingly referred to as St. Francis by his wife because of his kindness to care for all animals. During his married life he sheltered, fed, cared for, and adopted dozens of homeless felines. You could be sure to see him relaxing every day with his furry friends. He often joked that his best friends had four legs!
John found happiness casting his rod in the Loyalsock or just floating down the stream. He loved the quiet life sitting on his front porch and back deck with a cold beer and a good smoke, in the company of his forest friends.
John was a gentle soul. He was kind and loving. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten for his kindness and one-liners that brought smiles and chuckles to friendly conversations. He will be forever in our hearts.
John is survived by the love of his life, Louise of Leola, PA, his children: John Lloyd Hull and the mother to 2 grandchildren, Natalie Jones, of Leola, PA, and son Nicholas Alan Hull, also of Leola, PA, one daughter: Jessica Weidman and son-in-law, Cory Weidman of Millersville, PA, sisters: Maryann (Terry) Ansell of New Windsor, MD and Suzanne (Eugene) Bradley of Dushore, PA. In addition, four granddaughters: Isabella Jones, Celina Maria Hull, Leni Rose Weidman and Lucy Louise Weidman. John was a cousin and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
