Died, at the family residence, East Monroe street, Tuesday morning, March 15, of apoplexy, Mrs. Barbara Ballweg, sr., aged 57 years, 2 months and 7 days. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ball. She was born Jan. 8, 1841, at York, Pa. Most of her life was spent in that state. A few years ago she moved to Abilene, Kan., and two years ago she came from that place to Springfield, where she had since made her home.
A week ago, Mrs. Ballweg suffered a stroke of apoplexy. For a time the attending physician had hopes of her recovery but Sunday she suffered a relapse and her death was hourly expected until it came. She was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Ballweg, sr.; four sons, Fred, Joseph, Jacob and Henry; and five daughters, Mrs. Mary Rappenecker, Denver, Col.; Mrs. Walter Dodge and Mrs. Edward McCollom of Abilene, Kan.; and Misses Annie and Sarah Ballweg of this city. - IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, March 16, 1898
