Wilma Babino Sprott Taft was the daughter of Rosa Lee Cormier and Joseph Babino.

She completed her elementary and high school education in Beaumont and attended St. Joseph's College for Women in New York City. There she studied voice, culminating in a recital performance at Carnegie Hall.

In 1945, Wilma Nell married Dr. Curtis Sprott, a physician and surgeon who operated Beaumont's first African American Hospital with his brothers, Drs. Ed and Maxie Sprott. Following his passing in 1964, she raised their five children putting them through college.

In 1974, Wilma Babino Sprott married William Taft and they enjoyed twenty seven years together. After his death, her children shared in her care and she traveled from her home in Texas for visits to New Jersey and Florida.

Wilma will live on in her children: Curtis Sharif (Wanda), Dana Cunningham (Thomas), Robert Sprott (Vicki), Kendell Sprott (Donna), and Rose Swain (Michael); step-children Donald Taft (Stella) and Harlan Billy Taft (Rita); grandchildren Wallace, Curtis, Hana, Joseph, Faridah, Thomas IV, Curtis, Toni, Daniel, Arielle, Benjamin, Kendell II, and Lauren; step grandchildren Michael, Sandy, Paula, Penny, Kim, Jill (Kevin), Chuckie and Sade; great-grandchildren Alyce and Tommy Cunningham V, and Darius and Curtis Sharif; brothers Weldon Babino (Josephine), Joseph Babino (Delores) and Gary Babino (Hester), Aunts Cora Anderson and Dorothy Fontno and a host of nieces and nephews.
