Michael Ray Simmons, 75, of Norman, OK, passed away on October 15, 2022, at his home at the Norman Veterans Center with his daughter by his side. He lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 30 years. Mike was born on July 18, 1947, to Ray and Betty Simmons in Oklahoma City. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965 and attended college in Oklahoma. Mike volunteered to serve his country in the Vietnam War. He was a paratrooper in the Marine Corps and was awarded numerous badges and medals during his time of service. Mike worked as a television director and went on to have a successful career as the owner and president of Marcom Inc., an award-winning marketing, advertising and public relations agency for over 21 years. He was a fierce advocate for veterans and people with disabilities. Mike was an accomplished artist and OU football's biggest fan. He never missed a game and was sure to celebrate each touchdown with phone calls to his daughters. In good times and in bad, Mike's sense of humor always brought a laugh to those who knew and loved him. Mike is survived by his daughter, Meredith Smith and her husband, Drew; son, Clay Simmons; daughter, Lauren Powell and her husband, Tadd; grandchildren, Madeline Smith, Anderson Smith, and Tucker Powell; and sister, Susie Simmons. Mike is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; parents; and brother, Richard Simmons. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 22nd at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church in Edmond. Visitation will be available from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 21st at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
