Sonja Darlene Volden was born on December 29, 1936 in Henning, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Arnold and Agnes (Peterson) Volden. Sonja graduated from the Henning High School with the class of 1954. She continued her education in Minneapolis at the Swedish Hospital Nursing School where she obtained her Registered Nurse diploma. Sonja spent her whole life caring for people. Her first employment was at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Hot Springs, South Dakota. This is where she met her future husband, Harold.

On June 7, 1958 Sonja was united in marriage with Harold Daniel Walker at Trinity Lutheran Church in Henning. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Together they made their home in Hot Springs where Sonja continued her employment at the Veterans Administration Hospital and then the State Home in Hot Springs. On March 21, 2005 Harold passed away and he was laid to rest at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.

Sonja moved her home to rural Battle Lake where she continued to care for people as a parish nurse. She enjoyed making the world a more beautiful place. She loved arts and crafts, painting, making quilts, gardening, and fishing. She was an active member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway and enjoyed being involved in the “Save the Trinity” Project.

On May 15, 2020 Sonja passed away peacefully at the St. Cloud Hospital at 83 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding her in death is her husband: Harold; parents: Arnold and Agnes; and her grandson, Ryan Lippert.

Sonja is survived by her 4 children, 4 grandchildren,4 great-grandchildren,2 sisters,2 brothers and many other relatives and a host of friends.
