Ukrainian volleyball player who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1964 Summer Olympics, in the 1968 Summer Olympics, and in the 1972 Summer Olympics.Olympic Gold Medalist. He was a part of the Soviet volleyball team that captured gold in both the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics. He was playing volleyball in his native Ukraine when he was invited to play for the Soviet national team in 1959. He was a member of the Soviet national team for the next twelve years and was captain for seven of those years (1965-1972). During his tenure with the team, he helped them capture two Olympic golds (1964, 1968), two World Championships (1960,1962), two European Championships (1967, 1971), and a World Cup in 1965. He also won bronze medals at the 1972 Olympics, 1966 World Championships, 1963 European Championships and the 1969 World Cup. He also played his entire career with one club, Burevestnik Kharkiv, which won a Soviet title in 1967. After finishing his volleyball career, he worked as a professor of Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, being the head of sport games department. He was also active with the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation, being the member of their executive committee. He received several individual awards and honors for his volleyball career and was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2008.
