Johnny Clevis Mathis, 82, of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday May 28, 2020 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. Johnny was a member of the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church and the UMWA. He was a United States Air Force Veteran.

He was born on January 26, 1938 a son of the late Henry Mathis (1901-1983) and Malta Queen-Mathis (1914-2001).

Survivors include his wife of almost 32 years Diana K. Bailey-Mathis; three daughters, Belinda Mathis-Lovins & husband Brad Lovins of Matheny, Tracey Mathis of Pineville and Amy Mathis-Leech of Pineville; a son, Johnny Clevis Mathis II & wife Lisa Mathis of Bassett, VA; eight grandchildren, Charles Ballato, Jonathan Ballato, Ashley Ward & husband Archie Ward, Kassidee Lovins, Megan Murdock & husband Ray Murdock, Bridget Avonelle, Robbie Whitlow & wife Victoria Whitlow, and Britney Henson & husband Mike Henson; nine great grandchildren, Silas Ballato, Jasper Ballato, Anthony Ballato, Leoma Murdock, Zane Whitlow, Aubrey Whitlow, Parker Henson, Peyton Henson, and Kaden Pruett; five siblings, Glenna Mathis-Shields, Ronald Dale Mathis (B. 1940) & wife Karen Lynn Akers-Mathis (B. 1944), Barbara Mathis-Scholes, Trennis Mathis, and Larry Mathis & wife Vicki Mathis; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church Picnic Shelter, Oceana, WV with Pastor Jackie Grimmett officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny,
