Carolyn P. Wakefield, age 72, of 329 Timberlake Road, Sheboygan, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at St. Nicholas Hospital, from complications subsequent to a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Milwaukee on August 1, 1935, Carolyn was a daughter of the late Earl and Eleanor (Vogelman) Buechel. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Milwaukee, and was a 1955 graduate of Central High School in Sheboygan. She served as chairperson of three separate reunions for the class of 1955.
On October 4, 1969, Carolyn was united in marriage to Onen J. Wakefield in Sheboygan. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sheboygan.
During her life, Carolyn had worked as an assistant in the Pediatrics Dept. at St. Nicholas Hospital, as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Rammer; and as a school bus driver for Prigge's, where she was fondly called, "Yellow Wheels." She also worked as personal secretary for her husband, a well known architect.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Onen J. Wakefield; 6 children; Sherry Sobczak (special friend, Jim Rieth) of Elkhart Lake, WI, Lynn (Chuck) Haack of Fredonia, WI, and Wendy (Rick) Smith, Steve (Gina) Wakefield, Kurt Wakefield (fiancé, Connie Stepanski), and Craig Wakefield (significant other, Stephanie Casperson), all of Sheboygan; 17 grandchildren, Randy (Stacie) Penney, Jr., Angela Penney (Greg Kemp), Shannon Busse (Joel Martinez), Christopher Haack, Nickolas (Tiffany) Haack, Ryan Smith, Nathan Smith, Derek Wakefield, Nicole Wakefield, Amanda Wakefield, Aaron Wakefield, Jennifer Wakefield, Felecia Stepanski, Jacob Wakefield, Hunter Wakefield, Adam Wakefield, Justin Wakefield, Kaitlin Wakefield, Jalen Casperson, and Zack Casperson; 6 great-grandchildren, Phoenix Hughes, Devon Zahn, Jonathon Onen Penney, Esperanza Martinez, Joel Martinez, Jr., and Greyson Haack.
She is also survived by 2 brothers, Thomas (Sherry) Buechel of Muskego, WI, and Henry Schnider of Pensacola, FL; 7 sisters, Donna (Charles) Bell of Oklawaha, FL, Judy (Howard) Schultz of Phillips, WI, Jane Jaworski of Sheboygan, Karen Semph of Appleton, WI, Alyce Hendrickson of Springtown, TX, JoAnn Schubring of Rothschild, WI, and Joyce Tennant of South Carolina; a brother-in-law, Ronald Wakefield; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Keller and LaVonne Feld; an aunt and uncle, Alice & Jake Kotlar, an uncle, Sylvester Rach; special friends, Maryann Ziegler and Kathy Kurtz; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and her faithful companion, her dog, Duchess.
