Mr. Fred Cates White, age 72 of Algood, died Friday, May 29, 2020 at his home.

He was born Friday, November 28, 1947 in Cookeville to the late Fred Cates White, Sr. and Mattie Lee Verble White.

Fred graduated from Livingston Academy High School in 1965 and began his career as a police officer in 1969. He retired as a Deputy Chief of the City of Cookeville Police Department in 2010 and went on to work as a Security Guard at Cummins Filtration for five years.

He was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church where he served as an usher for more than 20 years. He will be remembered for his kind, loving spirit, and his sacrificial care for others.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Joyce.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Gail Arnold White (whom he married September 18, 1991 in Gatlinburg), of Algood, a daughter, Meredith White of Algood, adopted children, Cyndi Stroud of Greenville, SC, Brent White of New York City, Brandon White of Boulder, CO (with whom he remained close); two sisters, Faye (Gerald) Pryor and Freida White both of Algood.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 2, 2020 in the Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Gaw officiating. Interment followed in the Good Hope Cemetery in Overton County.
