George Edward Hale, 75, of Springfield, died at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center. George was born on June 30, 1944 in Rushville, the son of Glenn M. and Anita Lenover Hale.

He graduated in 1964 from Brown County High School. From there, he served his country in the United States Navy from 1964-1968. George held a 32-year career at Henry Nelch & Son as a truck driver. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and high school basketball and was a member of the Elks Lodge.

George was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rodney and Jerry Hale; and one sister, Linda Smothers.

He is survived by his son, Gregory (Robin) Hale of Dawson; one daughter, Dorey Stone of Springfield; one granddaughter, Marissa Higgerson; one step-grandson, Jamie Reese; two great-grandchildren, David Higgerson and Jordan Reese; and three sisters, Bonnie Jansen of Quincy, Sandra (husband, William "Bill") Dragoo of Petersburg, and Karen Hale of Springfield.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Private family burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

The family is being served by Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield.
