BURLINGTON - Barbara Carol Shepherd Garrison, 88, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital-Green Valley after a brief illness. She was born on May 2, 1932 in Lancaster County, NE to the late John Russell Shepherd and Mary Ellen Graham Shepherd, and was married 51 years to the late Walter Norman Garrison.
Barbara was a former librarian and teacher with the Alamance County and Person County School Systems, as well as with the John Nichols School of the Oxford Orphanage. She was a long-time member of Union Ridge Church and served on the Planning Committee for Services to the Elderly in Alamance County. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her son, Mark Russell Holt Garrison; a sister, Marilyn S. Parsonson; nieces, Carol Marrin, Sheri Peeples, Ellen Milberger, Susan Harris and Donna Early; nephews, John Rodney Garrison and Peter Parsonson; six great nephews and four great nieces.
