Jeff was born to Donald Robert Long and Elberta Rae Patrick, grew up in Provo and graduated from Provo High School. While attending Utah State University on a music scholarship he met Beth. They were married in Dallas, TX, on December 19, 1987, then stationed in Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Hood, TX. He served in Desert Storm as an Airborne MP, then earned a degree in criminal psychology at Weber State University. After he graduated, Jeff took a job with Bureau of Land Management as a Law Enforcement Ranger in Kanab, UT, where he and beth lived for 10 years. After they moved to Idaho Falls, Jeef was a Deputized U.S. Marshall. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, an avid scouter and helped to establish BSA Troop 1010. He enjoyed serving at the Idaho Falls Humanitarian Center, was a huge supporter of musical arts, advanced EMT and EMT instructor. He loved to be with his family, to serve, being around people, and being active in the outdoors.
Survivors beside Beth included: children Roy (Brittany Appleby) Long, RaeAnn (Ray) Ricks, Ashlee (Cenobio) Feliciano-Galeana, Aaron Long and Timothy Long; mother Elberta Long; sister Debbie (John) Farnsworth of Orem, UT; sister Betsey (Trent) Smith of Tetonia; and grandchildren Zachary, Lily, Michael, Nathan, Amelia, Nayeli, Caitlynn, and Henry. Services held Tuesday, June 2nd at Wood Funeral Home East side; Bishop Jeff Wheeler officiated with Military Rites by Teton County Veterans Memorial Team and Bureau of Land Management Honor Guard. Memorial donations made to Troops 1010 & 10 of the BSA Grand Teton Council.
