Joann Elizabeth Boyd, 90, of Ottumwa, died at 5:25 a.m. May 29, 2020 at home. She was born December 22, 1929 in Ottumwa to Chauncey and Mayme Nordgren Bales. She married Robert Boyd January 15, 1949.

A 1947 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Joann was a member of Faith Baptist Church where she taught children's Sunday school. She loved to cook and was a scout leader while raising her kids.

Surviving is her husband, Bob; their children, Sharon Van Engelenhoven of Ottumwa, Jim (Trudy) Boyd of Ankeny, Nancy (Dennis) Hinson of Clinton, and Jean (Steve) Zimmerman of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, Scott Van Engelenhoven, Brian (Heather) Van Engelenhoven, Sara (Justin) Anderson, Bart (Amy) Boyd, Rachael (Daniel) Pettit, Josh (Stefanie) Boyd, and John Hinson; 15 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Val Scieszinski.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Roberta Whennen, and her brother, Keith Bales.

Limited visitation will be open to friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.rfh-ia.com Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday June 1 at Faith Baptist Church, Pastor Phil Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. For those not able to be inside the church with the family during the service, you may watch the funeral after its completion on the Faith Baptist Church website at www.faith1.org.
