Richard was born August 17, 1944 to the late Pauline Blackburn Fields in Nyack, New York. He graduated from the Tappan Zee High School and served in the United States Navy from 1962-1966, and received an Honorable Discharge.
Returning home from the Navy, he became employed by the Orangetown Police Department, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. He served in this department for twenty years. Upon retirement, he was employed by the St. Thomas Aquinas College as the Chief of Security and also worked in the Security Department at the CIarkstown School District. Richard was a member of the Rockland Lodge #424, I.B.P.O.E. of W. of Nyack, New York.
He is survived by a brother, Calvin Fields of Maryland, Sister, Cheryl Fields of Washington, DC and a cousin, Michael Blackburn of Seattle, Washington.
A homegoing Service will be held at the St. Charles A.M.E. Zion Church, 432 Valentine Avenue, Sparkill, New York, on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will be at the Rockland County Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY.
