Rose Doti Dores (1852-1933)

Rose (Maiden Name Unknown) Doti (1852-1933), parents names unknown, was born in southern Italy in 1852. She married P Doti in Italy and they had 2 children. Her youngest child, daughter Ermelinda "Emma" Doti (1882–1951), was born November 1, 1882 in southern Italy when her mother Rose Doti was age 30. Rose Doti and her daughter Emma immigrated to the United Sates in 1892 when Rose was age 40 and Emma was age 10. Her husband P Doti and her first child apparently immigrated separately. Rose and Emma's husband and father P Doti died shortly after immigrating in1892 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan on date unknown. The death is recorded in "Michigan, Death Records, 1867-1952" maintained by Michigan Department of Community Health, Division for Vital Records and Health Statistics; Lansing, Michigan; Death Records.

Rose Doti remarried an Unknown Dores and assumed the name Rose Doti Dores and her daughter Emma Doti became Emma Doti Dores. The family Unknown Dores, Rose Doti Dores and Emma Doti Dores lived in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan an address unknown.

Emma married the prosperous Luigi D'Agostino (1875-1910) on January 17, 1901 in Manhattan, New York, New York when he was age 25 and she was age 18. The young Luigi and his wife Emma lived with his father Luigi D'Agostino (1822-1910) in a rented tenement apartment at 280 Michigan Ave, Ward 4, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Luigi and Emma had 3 children Louis, Florence and Anthony born in 1905, 1907 and 1909.

After the birth of their daughter and Rose's granddaughter Florence in 1907, Luigi and Emma moved their growing family to Saginaw, Michigan where they moved the young family into their own tenement apartment at 135 N Jefferson Ave. Luigi continued his work making violins working from the home. Emma took a job as Finisher with the prominent C F Opperman Fur Company in Saginaw one block away at 200 N Franklin St.

By 1909 the health of Luigi's elder father, age 87, began to deteriorate. Luigi and Emma, now pregnant with their third child Anthony, move the growing family back to Detroit and bought a house at 47 Leverett Street where the elder Luigi moved in with the family. By 1910 Emma's widowed mother Rose Doti Dores also lived with the extended family. In 1920 Detroit houses were renumbered and 47 Leverett Street became 1421 Leverett Street.

By 1910 the young Luigi was a Naturalized US Citizen at age 35 who could read, write, and spoke both Italian and English. Emma became a Naturalized US Citizen between 1920 and 1930 at age 38 to 48. She could read, write, and spoke both Italian and English.

The elder Luigi "Louis" D'Agostino (1822-1910) died 14 January 1910 at the age of 87 and was buried in the D'Agostino Family Plot in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. The elder Luigi never became a Naturalized US Citizen. He could read and write but spoke only his native Italian language. The remaining family continued to live at 1421 Leverett Street until their death.

By 1933 at age 81 the health of the widowed Rose Doti Dores began to deteriorate, and she died on date unknown in 1933 in Detroit. She is buried in the D'Agostino Family Plot in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Rose Doti Dores never became a Naturalized US Citizens. Rose could read and write but spoke only her native Italian language.

Luigi "Louis" D'Agostino (1875-1938) died March 16,1938 at age 62. Ermelinda "Emma" Doti Dores D'Agostino died in 1951 at age 68. All are buried in the D'Agostino Family Plot in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.
