Visitation (come and go) for Regina Snyder will be on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
Regina Edna Lyon Snyder was a remarkable and extraordinary wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend, and farmer. Jean was greatly loved, adored, and respected by all whose lives she touched. She was extremely thoughtful, giving, helpful and highly competent.
Jean was born in Waldwick, New Jersey in 1927. She grew up in a wonderful neighborhood where she had many close childhood friends and graduated early from Ramsey High School in New Jersey. Upon high school graduation, Jean worked in a New York City area radio station as the office manager, before meeting and marrying her husband, George in 1945.
Jean and George ventured to rural Palm Beach County, Florida in 1947 and began a vegetable farm near Delray Beach. Jean initially worked as a paralegal for a law office in Delray Beach before working full-time on the farm with her husband.
Jean and George worked extremely hard as a team and became very successful with growing eggplants, bell peppers, and squash in the challenging wilderness of rural Palm Beach county. They eventually added the raising of beef cattle to their farm operation. This brought them to the Daphne Prairie in Franklin County, Texas in 1973 when they moved their entire farm from South Florida. They continued to raise beef cattle and grow wheat and other grains on Daphne Prairie.
Throughout her life, Jean worked productively and tirelessly in all of her endeavors. She worked in the fields and pastures; served as the business manager for the farms, and was a devoted wife and mother who raised four children. She was a wonderful role model to her children. Jean loved children, dogs, cats, roses, gardening, birds, books, and nature.
Upon her semi-retirement, Jean enjoyed travelling throughout the United States with her beloved sister, Shirley, and visiting her other wonderful sisters (Louise, Irene, and Helen) along with many dear nieces and nephews in Maryland and New Jersey.
Jean passed away at home on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020 at the age of 93.
Jean is preceded by the passing of her husband, George in 1982, six sisters, two brothers, and a brother-in-law.
She is survived by her four children, John Snyder (Dee), Carey Snyder, Karl Snyder (Kay), Mary McLennan; three grandchildren, Wayne Snyder (Nikki), Adrianna Rose (Kenny), Lindsey McLennan; seven great grandchildren, Mary Beth Snyder, Katie Snyder, Matt Snyder, Georgia Snyder, Henry Snyder, Kason Rose, Roslyn Rose, nieces, nephews, a brother and sister-in-law, and many dear friends across the country.
The family would like to thank the caregivers that became friends over the last year at Christus in Tyler, Christus LTAC, UT Health in Pittsburg, and Legend Healthcare in Paris.
